Going on a Trip

Once upon a time there was a family that decided to go on a trip to Washington to see their cousins wedding. It was a long trip... they were in the car for 14 hours! Together. Luckily they got  along...most of the time. Along the way they stopped at many temples. They were sooo beautiful! Boise and Columbia River the first day, Seattle the next, and Twin Falls on the way home.

Boise, Columbia River, Seattle, and Twin Falls Temples
During the Car ride, they talked, joked a lot, read, listened to music, and fell asleep. The DVD player wasn't working, so the youngest two eventually made up their only little jingle for their made up show. At one point, the oldest had to go to the bathroom SO BAD. They were going to stop in Lime (You know so she could squeeze her lime! that doesn't even make sense. You don't squeeze your lime, you squeeze your lemon!) but they didn't know if it would get them back on the freeway, so they didn't. It was a good thing too because the road was blocked! Well they stopped in Weatherby instead. The Oldest thought it was so cool because Weatheryby is in Sense and Sensibility. But then the 2nd oldest told her after they left Weatherby that it was Willoughby... so much for being cool. But they still remember Weatherby! ;)

The first night they stopped at a hotel in Yakima. Well, this little hotel had one bathroom with the sink, counter (if that's what you call it- which was over the toilet! who designed that?), and shower all in the same room. When the oldest saw this bathroom, she cried her eyeballs out (inside). Although, after they decided that a bed bug bite wouldn't be too bad, covered the stain on the bed, and prayed there would be no problems getting ready in the morning, they made it! All 5 girls-no boys- got ready in the tiny little bathroom. In the morning. On time. a-maz-ing. Wow. Lets all stop and think about this. Who else can say that a family with 4 girls and a Mom can get ready in 1 bathroom, all showering, in the morning, on time, with NO problems?
This family is truly amazing.
Well on goes their trip. They drove to Ellensburg and met one of their uncle's girlfriend. She's was great! There, they also learned that one of the twins was in the hospital! He had an infected eye, or something. They were so excited to see him, but now they couldn't. So sad. They drove to the Seattle Temple together.
After viewing the beautiful temple, they went to Pikes Place Market. They found the best parking place deal on the block! Plus, a lady was really nice and gave them her ticket for all day parking! (which was illegal...)

Their first stop at Pikes Market was the gum wall. This was the long awaited attraction. There was gum everywhere! You couldn't see the bricks! The family's dad was being funny and pretended to lick the wall. The uncle of the said family was trying to be funny too by pretending to push the dad into the wall. He never actually got the Dad's tongue to touch the gum, but the Dad was scared...! :) brothers.

They saw all this delicious food.... that was way expensive,  fish throwers,.

lots of musicians (including a guy who played the piano! How does he get it there? And a girl playing a saw with a violin bow! It was so neat. There was also a guy playing the guitar and singing when a lady came up to kiss him, but he turned away so she kissed him on the cheek and walked away. Interesting. The family didn't know what to think about that...), lots of flowers, a magician,

Salmon, Beef and Cheese, and Apple Cinnamon Piroshkies.
ate at a Russian place and had Piroshkies- they were deelish!- ate fresh clam chowder, and chicken gizzards and hearts,

A ferry and sailboat
and saw ships on the beautiful water. After the Market, they went to their hotel and played Scum. They love scum! It's one of their favorite games that they play all the time with family.

The next day they went to Gig harbor before the wedding. As they were driving around, they found a yard sale. Imagine that! the Mom of the said family is the yard sale queen! They found a tennis racket for a quarter! The two oldest girls wanted to play tennis sometime in the summer, but didn't have rackets, so this was perfect! They saw a cute little family in a meadow, and found the church building that they were going to go to the next morning on accident!
At fox island, a seal, the water, a bridge
After exploring Gig Harbor a little more, they headed to the church where the wedding was going to be. When they pulled in the parking lot, though, they were the only ones there so they headed to a fishery.

None of the said family had ever been to a wedding so they didn't exactly know what to do. At one point they were almost the only ones in the room and didn't know if they were supposed to, so they had to ask the groom. A bunch of Mormons having to ask what to do...that must have looked funny... He said it was ok to be in there! There they also met their long lost cousins! They went to the reception in Gig Harbor and had yummy salmon. They had fun with the wedding festivities like toasts, hearing stories of the groom drinking hot chocolate (they were proud!), dancing, and taking A LOT of goofy pictures! I mean A LOT, you could tell the lady was kind of annoyed... "Are you ready... again?" But it was still fun!

"Wade why don't you have a mustache?"
"There are all gone."
"Just use your finger."
puts finger up in a straight line
"That looks like Hitler!"
Finger curves down... :)

They saw the bride and groom off in their decorated car ("Dibs on Megan" -Ryan)  and went back to their hotel. They next morning, they went to church in Gig Harbor with their long lost cousins and second cousins in a really good ward! A missionary from that ward got called to Salt Lake City! You don't hear that call very often!

Snowqualmie Falls and old trains
After church, they headed to their long lost cousins house, but made a little stop at Snowqualimie Falls along the way. It was cool! They also saw old trains! The drive from there to their house was so LONG! The family had to be quiet for the youngest... and the map ripped every time they opened it.

At the house, they played xbox kinect- A LOT, had yummy meals, played kemps, talked a lot, learned more about the apple computer, watched Benny and Joon, went to the 5th grader's graduation, and had delicious popcorn! It was so fun being with them after so many years!

The next day while everyone was at school or work, they went to Leavenworth. It was a fun little town! They got taffy had yummy cookies that their aunt made for them,

found a fun hat shop,

and ate REAL Tim Tams. They are soooo good!

They went to a fun produce store that had lots of honey samples. There they also found an "Egg Factory" and a lasso. (The 2nd oldest made it every time!) ;)

They also went to the only Aplets and Cotlets factory in the world and had a tour! It was pretty neat, although the workers were cleaning everything up... While they waited they had a whole box of samples!!

Shoshone Falls
The next morning they said goodbye to their cousins and left for the long drive back home. In Idaho, they stopped at Shoshone Falls and had dinner. It was a long stop, which meant they would get home later, but it was worth it!

During their drive they saw a lot of apple trees, and windmills. They eventually made it back-at midnight!-safe and sound. They got their dog that missed that desperately. She was going crazy! And they went to bed in THEIR nice, comfy, cool beds.

The End

Great post! You are a talented journalist, and I enjoyed reading all about your trip. I am very familiar with that area of Washington, and we almost moved to Vashon Island....just across the water from Fox and Gig. Thanks again for the great writing and pictures .... you made my day :)
