I remember when I moved into our home and you were sitting there perfectly in our backyard, just waiting to be played on. You were young then and had blue outdoor carpet. It quickly got gross though and we took it off.
I remember climbing your little wooden pegs over and over again, eventually being able to skip a step or two as I got older. I would stand on top imagining I could see the whole world (really just over the back fence). Your slide was the most exhilarating roller coaster and your swings were the perfect place to learn to pump, do an underdog, or to sit there and think.
You were a castle when I was a locked up princess, a sea ship when I was the captain, a science lab when I was a chemist, a perfect pioneer hut when we played pio/poor, a bed and shelter when we watched movies at night, and a sturdy ship when the ground was made of hot lava. You were everything a little mind could think of.
Over time, though, you grew old and started falling apart.
Your steps broke and fell out, your slide started to crack, and when we swung you swung right along. I thought you were going to fall right on top of us.
We all grew older and none of us really played on you anymore.
You would just sit out there, through rain and sunshine, snow and wind, all alone. I could almost see you as an old man hunched over, waiting to die. So we decided to take you down.
You will always be remembered though. How could I ever forget all the presents (*cough* ouchy slivers) you gave me on the bottom of my feet or in my little hands?
Don't be offended. This really is for the best. We appreciate all the times you let us play on you and all the memories you created!
With love,
Savanna
